She allowed him to spend a christmas eve on her home giving him home like feel for once in a year. This treatment and her politeness changed his mind and converted him into a good man....

I would have treated the peddler same way as Edla.
- The question has been asked from the story The Rattrap.
- Edla was pretty good to the peddler and handled him with the honour of a captain.
- When his true identity was revealed, she still believed the peddler to be a sad, homeless tramp and didn't feel robbed.
- She felt really bad for him instead, apologising on his behalf, as she and her father had vowed Christmas cheer for him.
- Through this mistaken identity, the peddler got a chance to lift himself and get above the world's petty temptations. Then, as captain von Stahle, he initialized himself.
