If you have 100 grams of water and add 20 grams of salt would the solution be 1/5 salt by mass if 20/100 = 1/5 OR would the solution be 1/6 salt by mass as 100+20 is a total solution weight of 120 grams and the solute/total solution mass is 1/6?
People have been giving me conflicting answers. Some say that the concentration by mass is solute/solvent. Others say that method just says how much extra you add and not the concentration of the final solution and the solute mass/solution mass is the concentration by mass.
