Absolutely it works.

afterall they are "lubricants" and are meant to make the area slippery thereby reducing the friction.

And once friction is reduced means Your difficulties are sort out .

This procedure works because of the following reasons -

  • Oil and soap are the types of lubricants.
  • A Lubricant is a substance that reduces friction between the surfaces of two objects in mutual contact.
  • When a lubricant such as oil or soap is applied to the ring stuck on a finger, due to their flowability the oil or soap seeps between the surface of the skin and ring.
  • The lubricant-surface friction is less than the surface-surface friction.
  • This causes an easy sliding of the ring from the finger.
  • Lubricants are also used to regulate heat between parts of a machine, sealing against dust or dirt, reducing oxidation of substance, and preventing corrosion of iron.
  • A few examples of lubricants are - grease(formed by mixing mineral oil and lithium-based soap), oils, and dry lubricants such as graphite, molybdenum, and silicone.
