If the stones are the same mineral and the bigger stone has more mass it can store more energy for the same temperature and because it is bigger it will adsorbe that energy more quickly but becuse of the larger heat capacity it will heat up more slowly and in turn give off energy faster but at a lower temperature for the same reason and that is the surface area of the stone. If the stones are left long enough to reach the temperature of the fire then they will start at the some temperature. A hollow larger stone of the same or lower mass will store less while heating and cooling faster.
