Copper (II) Crystals are hydrated.

This means it contains the water of crystallization.

When a piece of iron is kept with CuSO₄ the piece of iron turns brown meaning it rusts.

Reason:

The water of crystallization in the Copper Sulphate Crystals reacts with the iron in the presence of oxygen to form rust which is brown.
