Question 1 -
In a box , there are 16 stamps . Each stamp is marked with distinct numbers from 1 to 16 .
If the probability of Drawing a stamp marked an even number is { 1 / k } , find the value of k .
Solution -
In the above Question , the following information is given -
In a box , there are 16 stamps . Each stamp is marked with distinct numbers from 1 to 16 .
Now ,
First , let us find out , how many even numbered stamps are there in the box .
Here ,
The numbers range from 1 - 16 .
Even numbered stamps are those stamps , whose numbers are in the 2k form .
So ,
Even numbered stamps -
=> 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 , 12 , 14 and 16 .
Now ,
Number of even numbered stamps -
=> 8 stamps.
Sample Space -
=> Total Number of stamps
=> 16 - 1 + 1
=> 16 stamps .
Required Probability -
=> [ Number of Favourable Cases ] / [ Total number of outcomes ]
=> [ 8 / 16 ]
=> [ 1 / 2 ]
But , this is equal to [ 1 / k ]
Thus, we can conclude that the required value of k is 2 .
Question 2 -
The range of the data , 11 , 40 , 36 , 10, 25 , 30 , 15, 14 is k .
Find k
Solution -
Here , we are provided with the following data -
11 , 40 , 36 , 10, 25 , 30 , 15, 14
Thus is in the form of raw data or unorganized data .
So ,
Let us arrange this in ascending order first -
=>
- 10
- 11
- 14
- 15
- 25
- 30
- 36
- 40
Now , we can observe that -
The highest value is 40 and the lowest value is 10 .
Range is the difference between the highest and the lowest value in a data .
Thus ,
Range = 40 - 10
=> Range = 30
But , this is equal to k .
Hence , the required value of k is 30.
______________
First find out the number of even numbered stamps,
So here the formula for even Number stamps is 2k
Now, the even numbered stamps are,
➢ 2,4,6,10.....16
So the number of even numbered stamps is 8
Now the sample space is just the , The total number of stamps
➝ 6 + 1 - 1
➝ 6 stamps
So the Probability is,
➼
➼
➼
But as we know this is not equal to
Thus, The Value of
So here we have to first arrange the given data in ascending order, that is as,
✏
So now if you observe the table we find that the highest value is 40 and the lowest value is 10
So The Range of a data is given by,
➳ Range = Highest Value - Lowest Value
➳ Range = 40 - 10
