Offside is one of the laws of association football, codified in Law 11 of the Laws of the Game. The law states that a player is in an offside position if any of their body parts, except the hands and arms, are in the opponents' half of the pitch, and closer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent (the last opponent is usually, but not necessarily, the goalkeeper

Paul Pogba

Lukaku

Fred.

Answer:

I'm afraid all of the above answers are either incomplete or incorrect. To learn the rule, it can be broken into 3 separate parts. The parts can then be put together to get a working understanding of the rule. The parts are offside position, offside violation, and the exceptions to the offside rule. A player is in an offside position if he meets all of these requirements at the same time: 1. He is in his opponent's half of the field, and 2. He is nearer to his opponent's goal line than the the ball is (ie: he is ahead of the ball), and 3. He is nearer to his opponent's goal line than at least 2 opponents. Note that it is not illegal to simply be in an offside position. To be guilty of an offside violation, a player must: 1. Be in an offside position *when the ball is touched by a teammate*, and 2. Participate in the play. Number 1 is very critical, as it does not matter where the player is when he receives the ball. What matters is where he was when the ball was touched by a teammate. For the exceptions to the rule, a player is not to be declared offside if he receives the ball *directly* from a goal kick, corner kick, or throw in. I would add that you are going to be challenged to learn offside by tomorrow. Many who have been involved with soccer for a number of years do not fully understand the rule. I should add this is not a full discussion of the rule, but it does explain the basics.

  1. Cristano Ronaldo.
  2. Leonel Messi.
  3. Paul Paugma.
