Let us consider the number be x

As per the given condition

If we subtract 1/2 from a number and multiply the result by 1/2, then we get 1/8.

So the equation becomes

⇒ (1/2)(x – 1/2) = (1/8)

⇒ (x – 1/2) = (1/4)

⇒ 4x – 2 = 1

⇒ 4x = 3

Hence x = 3/4

Therefore 3/4 is the number from which if we subtract 1/2 from a number and multiply the result by 1/2, we get 1/8.

The answer will be 3/4 simply.

let me explain this :

firstly let the number be x, then make the equation accordingly i.e

X - 1/2 = y (let the answer be y) (this will be equation 1)

and Y * 1/2 =1/8 ( this will be equation 2)

now, solving equation 2 first:

Y * 1/2 = 1/8

Y =1/8 / 1/2 ( Dividing 1/8 with 1/2)

Y = 1/4

now , we know the value of Y i.e 1/4 , substituting the value in equation 1:

X - 1/2 = 1/4(Y)

X = 1/4 + 1/2

X=3/4

So the required number would be 3/4.
