if you subtract 1/2 from a number and multiply the result by 1/2 you get 1/8 what is the number?

Let the no be x.... When 1/2 is subtracted, result = x-1/2 As per the question,  (x-1/2)*1/2=1/8 x/2  - 1/4 =1/8 x/2 =1/8+ 1/4= 3/8  x=3*2/8=6/8=3/4
