let the number be 'x'...........

according to ur question

[x-1/8]1/4=1/16

[8x-1/8]1/4=1/16

[\frac{8x-1}{8} ]\frac{1}{4} =\frac{1}{16}\\ \\\frac{8x-1}{32} =\frac{1}{16} \\ \\cross multiplication.........\\\\16[8x-1]=32[1]\\8x-1=\frac{32}{16} \\8x-1=2\\8x=2+1\\8x=3\\\\x=3/8

here is ur answer......

hope it helps.....
