Step-by-step explanation:

let the number be x

then

according to the question

we have to first subtract 1/2 from it so

x - 1/2

now we have to multiply the RESULT with 1/2

so

( x - 1/2 ) × 1/2

and the answer by doing so will be 1/8

so

(x-1/2 ) × 1/2 = 1/8

find x

1/2x - 2/4 = 1/8

1/2 x = 1/8 +1/2

1/2 x = 1/8 + 4/8

1/2 x = 5/8

1x = 5/8 × 2

x = 10/16

 \sf \:Let \: the \: number \: be \: x.

 \sf \: According \: to \: the \: questions,

 \sf \: (x - \frac{1}{2}) \times  \frac{1}{2} =  \frac{1}{8}

  \sf \:  =  \frac{x}{2}, \frac{1}{4} =  \frac{1}{8}

 \sf \:  =  \frac{x}{2} =  \frac{1}{8} +  \frac{1}{4}

 \sf \:  =  \frac{x}{2} =  \frac{1}{8} +  \frac{8}{2}

 \sf \:  =  \frac{x}{2} =  \frac{1 + 2}{8}

 \sf \:  = x =  \frac{3}{8} \times 2

 \sf \:  x =  \frac{6}{8}

 \sf \:  x =  \frac{3}{4}
