In the story "the necklace" if Matilda had told the truth to Mme Frostier that she had lost the necklace she would never have suffered all the misery as the necklace was not as valuable as they thought. The borrowed necklace was fake and did not cost much as it appeared . But as she had not revealed the truth her future was ruined by the consequences of the lie.
