As a British person I would support colonization because it helped to increase our political power. We could gain profits in trade. We could get raw materials for our industries at a lower cost and sell our manufactured goods in India, which means we could have a large market for our machine made goods. In this way the colony would be very useful for us.

As an Indian I would oppose the colonization of India because as a result of this we lost our independence. Every section of the Indian society had to suffer due to foreign rule. The weavers suffered as they lost their trade. The soldiers had to struggle in the army and were not appointed to higher posts and paid low salaries. The rulers who did not have children lost their kingdoms to the British by the Doctrine of Lapse. So I would not support colonization.
