It really depends on the year, the situation I am put in.
If I was Otto Frank, I would take my family to the US in 1933 at the latest. If I was being overly sensitive, maybe 1925, the year when Mein Kampf (Hitler’s anti-semitic auto-biographical novel) was published.
But 1933 rings the bell because Hitler was put as Chancellor. The last warning bell was when the Enabling Act of 1933 was put in action. The first major Jewish boycott happened in 1933 and by 1939, we see Jewish hatred posters.
1939 was the last call really but if I was put into 1939, I would stay where the Franks stayed. The Secret Annex.

If i was Dr. Frank, i would take my family out to another country at the earliest.
Explanation:
- In the year 1925 when Hitler released his anti-semitic auto biography called Mein Kampf, if i was aware enough i would have taken my family to the US. Because in the year 1933, Hitler became the Chancellor.
- In 1933 when the Enabling Act was released, the first capture or attack on the Jewish happened. There were also hatred posters on Jewish pasted everywhere.
- Things got intense during 1939, because that is when there is no promise of safety for the Jews from the Nazis. So if i were to save my family at that time, then the Secret Annex is the only choice i would have had.
