The following are some of the steps I would have taken if I were the Government of India in 1862:

1. My primary duty lied to ensure proper forest management.

2. I would have placed a limit for trees to be cut down from a particular forest so as to evade the chaotic cutting of trees.

3. Cutting of trees would have to be remunerated with an equivalent cost of sowing of trees.  For this private constructors would have been given the contract.

4. I would have taught people about the advantages of scientific forestry and the science of conservation.

5. A particular department would have been establishing by me to keep a check on the activities in forests.
