The farmers in India contribute approximately 17 percent of GDP to our economy and employ nearly 53 percent of population of India and yet are let to suffer from lack of income and livelihood, sometimes due to vagaries of climate, sometimes due to dependence on welfare schemes and sometimes due to derision that has entrenched in our society for the farming community. It is just ironical to assume that even after 7 decades of claiming our independence and sovereignty, we haven't been able to provide the farmers, the financial independence and technological advancement that they so richly deserve. Instead of seeking long term solution to questions relating to worrisome financial conditions of the farmers by employing state intervention in policies that could create skill development and nullify the ill effects of paritsan climatic conditions, we chose to provide the momentary benefits of loan waivers and fiscal stimulus packages that were only aimed at increasing their dependence on the state and caused revenue expenditure without any asset creation thus exacerbating the already grim situation. Luckily due to adequate rainfall last year, we have been able to produce ample amount of agricultural products this season, but that's just because we were at the mercy of Rain God. Thank God, or the pandemic could have translated itself into starvation for the migrant workers also.

To improve the condition of farmers, we need to let go of appeasement politics and instead think of the long term solutions which start with reducing farmers’ dependence on welfare schemes endorsed by government ( not forcefully but through making farmers financially independent).
The realisation of this dream requires mutual coexistence of technology and transparency. Apart from technological intervention in activities that presently require manual labour, would save time of the farmers, bring efficiency in farming activities and would encourage farmers to delegate their remaining time into skill development programs that should be run by the government in cooperation with the local governmental bodies. The success of crop production will accrue benefits only if the procurement is done in timely and transparent manner. Door to door procurement service might help induce transparency in the process with MSP of crops printed in bold and conspicuous locations on the procurement vehicle and the money directly getting transferred into the beneficiary's account.
To stop the transition of agricultural Industry from being Job led to being Job less requires much more than the above mentioned steps. It requires the intent, first of all, to not get swayed by political amibitions of providing loan waivers and not at any cost, aggressive revenue expenditure to provide short term benefits. We need to do atleast something for the industry that fetches livelihood to nearly half of 1.3 billion population.
1) Depending on rain: Still most of Indian farmers depend on rain for irrigation. Still many of the regions do not have a proper infrastructure for irrigation.
Government should build canals and provide electricity at low cost for irrigation. They should make aware the farmers about better technologies for irrigation.
2) Agriculture Loan: Government is providing loan to farmers but for that, in some of the areas they have to pay bribe, for example a loan of 50,000 they pay bribe as 5000. So the government should take strong action against this.
3) Seed and Fertilizer: Government should provide proper subsidy in these two things.
4)Machinery: Farmers are still using old model tractors and other machines, some advance model machines are also available but they are costly so government should provide subsidy on such machinery.
5) Proper value: Farmers are not getting proper value for their product.
For ex: Businessman purchases wheat 12 Rs/ kg from farmers and sells it at 25 Rs/kg in market. So the government should buy directly from farmers at a proper rate.
6)Food Park: Government should establish at least 500 new food park across India . This will increase demand of fruits and vegetables then the farmers will start growing it in large scale and government should export these product.
7)Education: This is most important. Government should send agriculture scientists in each village panchyat and educate the farmers about which type of crop they should grow in which type of soil and how they can grow three crops in three seasons of one year.
India needs second green revolution. The amount of agricultural land decreasing day by day and on the other hand the demand for crops are increasing because of growing population.
Farmers are also facing a lot of challanges like drought and flood. In these cases government should provide proper help to farmers. In these cases government gives money but it does not reaches to farmers, so the government should take care of these things
Hope this help u
