Convex mirrors are used in automobiles to see the traffic from behind due to the following two reasons.

a) A convex mirror always forms an erect image,Diminished,And virtual image of an object placed anywhere in front of itm

b) A convex mirror has a wider field of view than a plane mirror of same size.

if i was driving a car i would use a convex mirror because it give us a wider view as compare to plane or concave mirror. this is because it give us a diminished view so the view is large.
