It's valency is 3 , because in the outermost shell of boron no.of. electrons is 3.

if no.of. electrons in outermost shell of any element is less than 5 ,then valency is also the same number.

if it is greater than or equal to 5, then valency is 8 - n,

where n is no.of. electrons greater than or equal to 5.

eg: 8-5 = 3 is valency
