<strong>If_{7} exist but Brf_{7} does not exist because 7 small fluorine atoms can easily accommodate around large iodine atom.

Explanation:

  • It is known that fluorine, bromine and iodine are all group 7 elements. The size of these elements increases on moving down the group. Hence, fluorine is the smallest in size and iodine is largest in size.
  • So, IF_{7} is an AX_{7} type of interhalogen compound that is formed when there is large electronegativity difference between two halogens and also there is large difference between sizes of the halogen atoms.
  • Seven small fluorine atoms are able to accommodate around a large iodine atom but seven fluorine atoms are not able to accommodate around a bromine atom due to electronic repulsion between the fluorine atoms.
