ifA car having initial velocity of 10 m/s accelerates uniformly for 5 s and acquires a velocity 40 m/s. Then for the next 3 s its velocity doesn't change. Finally it comes to rest in another 5 s.
(i) Draw the velocity - time graph of the motion of the car.
(ii) Find the distance travelled by the car for the first 5 s.
(iii) What will be the acceleration of the car between 5 second to 8 second?

Answer:

Explanation:

V = at

⇒8a10

⇒a= : 0.8m/s²

V² = U² + 2as

⇒U = 8² + 2 × a64

- 64

⇒a= 2 × 64 = -0.5m/s²

Distance travelled= Area of graph

1 1 ⇒ 584 = x 10 x 8 + 8 xt¹ + x 16 x 2 2

8

⇒ 584 = 40 + 8t¹ + 64

⇒ 8t¹ = 480

⇒ t¹ = 60

Total time 10+60+ 16 = 86s
