3x − y = 5 .....(II)

Adding (I) and (II)

5x=10⇒x=105=2

Putting this value in (I) we have

2×2+y=5

⇒4+y=5

⇒y=1(x,y)=(2,1)

(iii) 3x− 5y =16 .....(I)

x − 3y = 8 .....(II)

Multiply (II) with 3

3x−9y=24 .....(III)

(I) − (III)

4y=−8y=−2

Putting the value of y in (II)

x= 2
