(i) 4a-2a(8a-3a)+a²

= 4a-16a²+6a²+a²

= 4a-9a²

It can not be done using the distributive law.

Distributive law is only used in those cases where both the terms are whole multiplied with each other. But here both the terms are not whole multiplied with each other. So, 4a will not be multiplied with the second term and -2a will be multiplied.
