ii) A rectangle has area equal to that of a square of side 40 cm. If the breadth of the
rectangle is 20cm, find its length.​

Solution:

Given that area of rectangle is equal to area of square which side is 40cm. So here, to find area of rectangle, we need to find area of square first. after that the area of square will be the area of rectangle and breadth of rectangle is given then we can find out its length easily.

Finding Area of square :

  • Side of square = 40cm

We know that ,

  • Area of square = (side)²

=> Area of square = 40²

=> Area of square = 1600cm²

Now, we found that area of square is 1600cm²

Hence,

  • Area of rectangle is 1600cm²

We know that :

  • Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth

Where,

  • Area = 1600
  • Length = ?
  • Breadth = 20cm

Let put all known values in this :

Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth

→ 1600 = length × 20

→ length = \dfrac{1600}{20}

→ length = 80

Therefore,

  • Length of rectangle is 80cm

  • Side of square is 40cm

To find :

  • Find Length of rectangle ?

Solution :

Area (square) = side²

=> Side of square = 40cm

=> Area of square = (40 × 40)cm²

=> Area of square = 1600cm²

  • Area of square = Area of rectangle = 1600cm²

Area (rectangle) = l × b

=> Length of rectangle = 20cm

=> Length of rectangle = 1600/20

=> Length of rectangle = 80cm

Hence,
