1) The Peninsular Plateau is of immense use because:

(i) It is store house of minerals like Iron ore, bauxite, gold, copper, coal, manganese, mica etc.

(ii) Its Black Earth soils are very productive and are intensively given to cotton culture. (iii) The Ghats are immeasurable sources of wood, Timber etc.

2) The Europeans for many years wanted to discover a sea route to India. India was a spice haven and was in great demand in Medieval Ages.

Trade occurred through land mostly. Europeans had to pay money to the people of the region from where their trade goods were transported. This led to a very high prices of spice in Europe.

So they desperately needed to find a new sea route to minimize this cost.

Portuguese were the first to find a sea route to India.

3) 1. Indians could develop modernity, secularism, democratic attitudes and rationality along with Nationalistic ideals.

2. The impetus was received for the local literature and languages. This facilitated unity in thinking process among the educated class.

3. Periodicals started emerging. These scrutinized the policies and. working of the government which in turn enabled the Indians to have critical opinions on various issues.

4. New social and religious reformation movements emerged.

5. The thoughts of thinkers like J.S. Mill, Rousseau and Montesquieu brought fresh thinking in the mind of educated youth of India.

6. The freedom struggles that were taking place across the globe influenced the Indians also.

7. Indians could understand and appreciate their rich tradition. Like this, the new thinking and cultural perception that emerged due to the British Education System created a new generation of Indians with progressive attitudes.

4) Charles Grant and William Wilberforce, who was missionary activists, compelled the East India Company to give up its non-invention policy and make way for spreading education through English in order to teach western literature and preach Christianity.

5) Importance of Himalayas:

1. The presence of the Himalayas in north prevents southwest monsoon winds and cause rainfall and snowfall. If this mountain is absent, a major part of the Indian sub-continent would have been a hot and dry desert.

2. Himalayas forms a natural boundary for the sub-continent. It is permanently frozen and is a barrier to invasion.

3. The northern plains of India are of great economic and social significance due to other fertile alluvial soils, flat level land, slow moving perennial rivers and a favourable and trade have been developed.

4. Peninsular plateau is rich in mineral and has huge reserves of Iron, Manganese, Copper, Bauxite, Mica, Chromium, Limestone etc.

5. A large number of big and small ports have been developed all along the coastal areas. These ports an important role in the growth of national and international trade.
