II.Assertion-Reason Questions
Note: Read the Assertion and the Reason statements carefully and mark the correct
option out of the following options:
(a) If both the assertion and the reason are true and reason is correct explanation of the
assertion.
(b)If both the assertion and the reason are true and reason is not the correct explanation
of the assertion.
(c ) If the assertion is true but the reason is false.
(d)If both the assertion and the reason are false.
1. Assertion:-A straw acquires electrostatic charge after it has been rubbed with a sheet of
paper.
Reason:- This is due to the magnetic force.
2. Assertion:- Objects or things fall towards the earth when thrown upward.
Reason:- This is due to the fact that force of gravity acts on all the objects.
3.Assertion:-The force exerted by a magnet is an example of a non contact force.
Reason:- As magnet can attract magnetic materials.
4.Assertion : A moving ball comes to rest after some time.
Reason:- A moving ball comes to rest after some time as force of friction acts on the ball.

Answer:
Question:
Assertion:- A straw acquires electrostatic charge after it has been rubbed with a sheet of paper.
Reason:- This is due to the magnetic force.
Answer:
Firstly looking into the assertion, Assertion is correct because when we rub a straw on a paper the transfer of charges takes place between the bodies (straw, paper sheet)
Now, Reason, Reason is wrong as the transfer of charges (or) a body acquires charge due to electrostatic force of attraction not due to Magnetic force.
Therefore, assertion is correct but Reason is wrong.
Hence, Option-3 is correct.
Question:
Assertion:- Objects or things fall towards the earth when thrown upward.
Reason:- This is due to the fact that force of gravity acts on all the objects.
Answer:
Looking into assertion, Assertion is correct, as we know practically that when we throw any object it returns back to the earth.
Now, Reason, Reason is correct because object falls on earth due to gravity (gravitational force) and, gravitational force acts on every body irrespective of their masses. and, Reason explains assertion.
Hence, Option-1 is correct.
Question:
Assertion:- The force exerted by a magnet is an example of a non contact force.
Reason:- As magnet can attract magnetic materials.
Answer:
Looking into assertion, Assertion is correct, as we know that magnet attracts ferromagnetic substances like Iron without any contact with it. Hence it is a non-contact force (without any contact).
Now, Reason, Reason is correct as we know magnet attracts magnetic materials (Ferro Magnetic) without any contact due to magnetic force.
But, Reason is not explaining the assertion.
(For explaining the assertion reason should be " as it attracts the magnetic substances without contact)
Hence, Option-2 is correct.
Question:
Assertion:- A moving ball comes to rest after some time.
Reason:- A moving ball comes to rest after some time as force of friction acts on the ball.
Answer:
Looking into assertion, Assertion is correct, as we know practically that when we a ball is moving on a floor (House floor) after travelling some distance ball comes to rest.
Now, Reason, Reason is correct as force of friction acts on the body due to which body stops. Force of friction opposes Motion. Thus, a moving body comes to rest after sometime. and, Reason explains assertion.
Hence, Option-1 is correct.
