When opposite poles are facing each other, in that situation magnetic field lines become denser between the poles of the magnets and they experience an attractive force.

2) When the same poles are facing each other.

When the same poles are facing each other, in that situation magnetic field lines repel each other and the magnets experiences a repulsive force.
