Answer:

Element Y with atomic number 9 would form an anion and element Z with atomic number 12 would form a cation. Cations which are “positively charged ions” and the anions which are “negatively charged ions” are formed when a nonmetal gains an electron and a metal loses an electron respectively.

Answer:

Hi.

Here is your answer-------

Electronic configuration for X(6) =  2,4

-----------------------------------Y(9) = 2,7

-----------------------------------Z(12) = 2,8,2

A -----From the electronic configuration, we can see that Y can easily form anions because it wants only one electrons to complete its octet. Also, X can form anions but not more readily than Y

B------ From the electronic configuration, we can see that cations will be formed by Y as it has valency 2 thus it can lose electron.

Elements X has a tetra valency, it can form both ions as well as anions

Elements Z will neither form cations or anions as its octet is complete and it is stable. It is a Noble or Inert gas.

Hope it will help u.

Have a nice day.
