Hi there
The merchant of Venice written by W. Shakespeare is romantic comedy which has one of the main theme as the friendship between Antonio and Bassanio. So in act 3 scene 4 its the time when Bassanio wins Portia and receives Antonio's letter who is grave danger as the wealthy jew Shylock is about to take a pound of flesh from Antonio's body as per the merry bond. Antonio first of all falls in this bond because of Bassanio so that he can woo Portia. Antonio loves Bassanio so dearly that even when Shylock tells him to sign the fatal bond he doesn't hesitate and this shows how Antonio truly loves Bassanio and he is even ready to risk his life for Bassanio. Bassanio on the other side is ready to pay Shylock double the amount and even 20 times of it and says that Antonio is not a good friend but merely a God .
