CONCEPT

Co-ordinate Geometry

GIVEN

If x = 2, y = 3, u = -2, v = -3.

FIND

Then point (x + y, u + v) lies in the quadrant

SOLUTION

To answer such questions one should have basic knowledge of Co-ordinate Geometry and Cartesian plane.

  • According to 2D Geometry, the plane is divided into 4 parts which are called quadrants.
  • If the coordinates of a point are positive, then point will lie in 1st Quadrant.
  • If the coordinates of a point are negative and positive, then point will lie in 2nd Quadrant.
  • If the coordinates of a point are negative, then point will lie in 3rd Quadrant.
  • If the coordinates of a point are positive and negative, then point will lie in 4th Quadrant.

Given point is (x+y) = (2+3)= 5. (u+v)=-5. since the coordinates are positive and negative hence the point will lie in would lie in 4th quadrant

The point (x+y,u+v) i.e. (5,-5) lies in the 4th quadrant.
