Given:

  • The ratio of iron and carbon = 49:1.
  • Total steel = 250 quintal

To Find:

  • How much iron is there = ?

Solution:

Let the amount of iron and carbon be 49x and x respectively.

According to the question —

 \sf \implies \: 49x + x = 250 \\  \\  \sf \implies \: 50x = 250 \\  \\  \sf \implies \: x = 5

Hence the value of x is 5.

Therefore —

  • Amount of Iron = 49x = 49 * 5 = 245 quintal
  • Amount of carbon = x = 5 quintal

total weight of steel = 250 quintal

let amount of iron in it be 49x....i)

let amount of carbon in it be x....ii)

then , we have

x +49x =250 quintal of steel

50x=250

x=250/50

x=5

now substitute value of x in i) and ii)

i) 49x=49×5= 245 quintal of iron

ii) 1x=1×5= 5 quintal of carbon
