Question:-

In class X of a school, the ratio of the number of boys to that of the girls is 4:3. If there were 20 more boys and 12 less girls, then the ratio would have been 2: 1. How many students were there in the class?

Answer:-

Original ratio of boys to girls = 4 : 3

Let the number of boys be 4x and number of girls be 3x

20 more boys = 4x + 20

12 less girls = 3x - 12

Then new ratio = 2 : 1

A/q

(4x + 20)/(3x - 12) = 2/1

=> 4x + 20 = 2(3x - 12)

=> 4x + 20 = 6x - 24

=> 2x = 44

=> x = 44/2

=> x = 22

Ans. Number of boys = 4x = 4 * 22 = 88

Number of girls = 3x = 3 * x = 3 * 22 = 66
