Gavaskar used to play cricket with his mother when he was very young. He used to play with a tennis ball. His mother used to bowl him, while he would bat at it. Once, while playing, by mistake he hit his mother on her head with the tennis ball. His mother wiped off the blood and when it stopped to be bleed, she started to bowl again. This made the young boy look at the sport very seriously and inspired him to become a good cricketer.
