same force 20N

why I choose 20N here is the reason

first of all from the question they said mass m2 reduced to 50% nearly half of the mass after that M1 exerts a force on m2 from now you understand I hope so

after that same m2 exerts a force on M1

according to Newton third law

every action there is equal and opposite reaction from this I conclude that

the force exerted by the mass m2 on M1 is 20N in opposite direction

they given 50% reduced mass m2 to confuse you
