ii) The present age of Arjun's mother is three times the present age of Arjun. After 5 years their ages will
add to 66 years. Find their present age?​

Present age of Arjun = 14 years

Present age of Arjun's mother = 42 years

Solution :-

◍ Let the age of Arjun be x and the age of Arjun's mother be y.

Case - I :

Condition - The present age of Arjun's mother is three times the present age of Arjun.

=> y = 3x    .... eq. i.)

Case - II :

Condition - After 5 years their ages will  add to 66 years.

Arjun's age after 5 years = x + 5

Arjun's mother after 5 years = y + 5

=> (x + 5) + (y + 5) = 66

=> x + 5 + y + 5 = 66

=> x + y + 10 = 66

=> x + y = 66 - 10

=> x + y = 56

Substituting the value of y from eq. i.)

=> x + 3x = 56

=> 4x = 56

$\tt{=> x = \dfrac{56}{4}}$

=> x = 14

=> Arjun's present age = 14

Now, we will substitute the value of x in eq i.) to find the value of y.

Eq. i.)

=> y = 3x

=> y = 3 × 14

=> y = 42

=> Present age of Arjun's mother = 42
