let the highest mark b x and lowest mark be y then the equation will be

x = 2 Y + 7

87=2y+7.

87-7=2y

80=2y.

y=80/2

y=40..marks

Solution:

Given that teacher tells the class that the highest marks obtained by a student in her class is twice the lowest marks plus 7

Highest score is 87

To find: the lowest score

From given question,

highest marks = twice the lowest marks plus 7

highest marks = 2(lowest marks) + 7

From above we know that highest score = 87

87 = 2(lowest marks) + 7

87- 7 = 2(lowest marks)

2(lowest marks) = 80

lowest marks = 40

Thus the lowest score is 40
