The poet says that the world will end in either fire or ice . Fire is symbolised as desire and ice as hatred. This poem is a metaphor for human feelings of desire and hatred. It tells us about how humans will be the end of our own race.It describes how desires, feelings of trust and passion leads us to do ourselves harm, how hatred and icy unsympathetic judgement makes us cold towards everyone.
The poet creates a hypothetical situation of the world ending twice.
The poet leans towards the idea of the world ending in fire that is due to greed and mainly thirst for power. Contradicting this he says that the world can indeed meet its end at the hands of ice as well as hatred because of the amount of hatred in present in this world .
