The action of dihydrogen on calcium results in the formation of calcium hydride.

1) This is an oxidation-reduction or redox reaction.

2) Here, H2 is an oxidising agent which itself gets reduced and Ca is a reducing agent which itself gets oxidised.

3) This results in the formation of CaH2 or calcium hydride.

4) The common name of calcium hydride is hydrolith.

The reaction is as follows :-

Ca + H2 - > CaH2
