x^2 -2x=48

x^2 -8x+6x-48=0

x(x-8)+6(x-8)=0

(x+6)(x-8) =0

so, x=-6 or 8

Answer:

x = -6 and 8

Step-by-step explanation:

 {x }^{2}  - 2x = 48 \\  =  >  {x}^{2}  - 2x - 48  = 0 \\ =  >  {x}^{2}   + 6x - 8x - 48 = 0 \\  =  > x(x + 6) - 8(x + 6)  = 0\\  =  > (x + 6)(x - 8) = 0

Now, for the above equation to be zero, either (x+6) = 0 or (x-8) = 0

So, x + 6 = 0 => x = -6

or, x -8 = 0 => x = 8
