EXPLANATION

2x + 5y = - 1 (i)

3x - y = 7 (ii)

We will solve this by elimination method,

Multiplying (ii) by 5 , we get ;

15x - 5y = 35 (iii)

Adding (i) and (iii) , we get ;

17x = 6

So, x = 6 / 17

Putting the value of x in (ii), we get

3 × 6 / 17 - y = 7

18 - y = 17 × 7

18 - y = 119

- y = 119 - 18

- y = 101

y = 101

Hence x = 6 / 17 , y = 101
