iii) All are Long Answer Type Questions.
What are collisions? Explain the types of collisions. Show that in the
case of one dimensional elastic collision, the relative velocity of approach
of two colliding bodies before collision is equal to the relative velocity
of separation after collision. A body freely falling from a certain height
'h' after striking a smooth floor, rebounds to a height h/2. What is
coefficient of restitution between the floor and the body?

Answer:

Explanation:

collision: A collision is the event in which two or more bodies exert forces on each other in about a relatively short time. Although the most common use of the word collision refers to incidents in which two or more objects collide with great force, the scientific use of the term implies nothing about the magnitude of the force.

types of collision:There are two general types of collisions in physics: elastic and inelastic. An inelastic collisions occurs when two objects collide and do not bounce away from each other. Momentum is conserved, because the total momentum of both objects before and after the collision is the same.

In an  elastic collision, total linear momentum is conserved.

Therefore ,m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2......(1)

Similarly, kinetic energy is also conserved.
