The process during which four cells each having half the amount of the chromosomes is produced by a single cell. Such a process is known as meiosis.

During meiosis there are is a single round of DNA replication but two rounds of cell division.

Meiosis takes place in two steps:

Meiosis I and Meiosis II

  • During Prophase-I, the number of chromosomes is the same as the parent and double the amount of DNA.
  • During Prophase-II, the number of chromosomes is half of the parent and half the amount of DNA that was present after the S-phase.
  • During Telophase-I, the number of chromosomes is half of the parent and half the amount of DNA that was present after the S-phase.
  • During Telophase-II, the number of chromosomes is half of the parent and one-fourth the amount of DNA that was present after the S-phase. This is because of the further splitting of the daughter cells.

Hence, the correct option is (d) Telophase-II.
