Answer:

These are the characters from the story Witches’ Loaves  by O. Henry.

About the characters

Martha owned a bakery to which Mr. Blumberger came often to buy stale bread. By the looks of Mr. Blumberger, Martha mistook him to be a poor painter. She was attracted by his good manners and was sorry for him. Her heart longed to help him eat a good meal.

Reason for Blumberger's anger

So one day, without Blumberger's knowledge, Martha added some fresh butter to the stale bread. Blumberger had been working for three months, on a prize competition of drawing a plan for a new city hall.

He had been using the stale bread to erase pencil markings of his drawing. It was almost complete but because of the butter in the stale bread, the whole architect was spoiled. So he was very angry with Martha.

.Martha begins to think about the gentleman and how to find out more about him. Noticing his stained fingers, she assumes he is an artist, so she hangs up a painting for him to notice and discuss. She takes to dressing up for his regular appearances, and mixes up a face cream formula to look her prettiest.
