5. This canal is very important as it provides life to desert regions of Rajasthan ranging from Sri Ganganagar to Jaisalmer. It has made possible as intensive cultivation of food crops and cash crops(crops for selling which brings money) in arid regions of Rajasthan....... The canal was named to honor Smt.Indira Gandhi after her assassination in 1985.
