Far away on a lonely Island, there lived a wise old man and his daughter. The
man was Jatashankar ja magician .The daughter was Roopmati,a lovely young girl of
sixteen. They lived in a cave ,One half of which was used for Jatashanka's study it was here
that he kept his books and studied magic of the day.He knew so much of the art of magic
that he was able to common. The spirits obeyed him gladly because they were grateful to
him for having rescued them from the power of the wicked Ugranarayan,who had treated
them cruelly.
