Gender discrimination means females and males are not equal in accessing to resources and opportunities which can happen because of cultural, social and economic factors. There can be inequality between men and women in employment, wages, education, political power and access to economic resources. The figures of international organizations indicate that women have less access to resources and opportunities in comparison with men. A large number of studies confirm that gender inequality impedes economic growth; so, exclusion of women from opportunities affects not only themselves but also the entire society. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of gender discrimination on economic growth in selected countries in the Middle East and North Africa during the period 1996-2012. We focus on gender gaps in education and political power. On the base of the results, gender inequality has a negative effect on economic growth. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the gender gaps for enhancing economic growth
