Because of illitracy, Election is performed by allotting symbols for each party. People may not identify face or name in the voting slip or EVM. Assuming people may cast their vote to other person wrongly.
One symbol is normally allotted to a party, then continued always as long as they get required votes once in 10 years. The symbol gets more importance than the candidate. So, candidate can loot public money without caring his reputation is spoiled, as long as symbol is there to save him.
A popular leader make the symbol to reach the whole population all over the state. But, after him people no longer having his ideology still use his symbol and win elections.
That is why party men do many funny stunts to capture the symbol of the party. It is destroying the democracy and make musical chair among 2 parties only… everywhere.
Election commission must change the voting method by symbols as soon as possible. They can print serial no, name of the candidate and photo in EVM clearly visible instead of symbols. Candidates can canvas people saying their number in EVM.
This will make candidates to work for people at least bare minimum level to make their face is popular and remembered.
