There probably is. There is in most countries, with a few exceptions primarily in the Middle East and other religious places, a relationship between education and lower birth rate. There is perhaps even more relationship between education, empowerment and equality of women and lower birth rates. So since literacy is generally a fundamental part of education I guess there is a relationship there as well as a general stereotype. Though like any stereotype it doesn’t always hold true.

I don’t have any statistics about it off hand.

I also believe it’s possible to effectively provide sex education and birth control to an illiterate society. These things just generally come along with the whole educational package as well. It’s probably easier if the people are literate.
