Illusion meaning in poem people by D H Lawrence
Answers
I have always like D.H. Lawrence’s poetry. He seems a little grumpy about humanity in general, maybe even a little curmudgeonly but there is more than a sliver of truth to many of his poems. In the poem, “People” he feels there isn’t enough space for everyone. When I first read it, I took it to be a physical space that he was wanting and I’m sure there was something correct about that, but as many people who have sought after silence and stillness know, sometimes there isn’t enough room inside yourself either. I think that could be an even bigger problem sometimes. I often find it hard to get out of my own way; too many pressing thoughts and wonders to quiet myself and allow the space within to develop out of the quiet. I think perhaps Lawrence may have felt that way too a little bit. There often doesn’t seem that there is enough still and quiet space or time to examine your own thoughts or inner self.
