Answer:

(i) They react with metals to give out hydrogen gas e.g.,

Zn + 2HCl → ZnCl2 + H2

Zinc + Hydrochloric acid → Zinc Chloride + Hydrogen

(ii) They react with bases to form salt and water e.g.,

2NaOH + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + 2H2O

Sodium hydroxide + Sulphuric acid → Sodium sulphate Water

(iii) They react with metal carbonates to liberate CO2 gas

Na2CO3 + 2HCI → 2NaCI + H2O + CO2

Sodium carbonate + Hydrochloric acid → Sodium chloride + Carbon dioxide

Answer:

Three properties of acids are:-

  • It turns blue litmus into red.
  • On reaction with alkali metals, it liberates hydrogen which burns a pop sound.

Example - Zn + 2HCl --> ZnCl2 + H2

  • On reaction with metal carbonates and bicarbonates, it liberates carbon dioxide gas which turns lime water milky.

Example - Na2CO3 + HCl --> NaCl + H2O + CO2
