if a person is going from point a to b,then the distance will be the actual path covered by him and displacement will be the shortest path between a and b

Explanation:

Consider a triangular path with vertex A, B and C.

AB = 4m; BC = 5m; AC = 3m

Consider starting point to be A and the endpoint to be B.

If a man starts from A and goes to B and then travels to C.

Then distance travelled by a body = AB + AC = 4m + 5m =9m.

Displacement = minimum distance between intial point and final point =

AC = 3m.
